VLEN: European Commission recognizes reform progress and North Macedonia’s European orientation

VLEN views the European Commission’s report as recognition of the work of the institutions and the results achieved in implementing the Reform Agenda. In a statement to the media, VLEN said the document acknowledges achievements in judicial reform, the economy, digitalization and regional cooperation, demonstrating that institutional efforts are receiving recognition from Brussels.

According to VLEN, North Macedonia ranks among the best-performing countries under the Reform and Growth Facility. More than €142 million had been disbursed by June, including pre-financing. VLEN stressed that these funds are linked to the fulfillment of commitments and reform measures assessed by the European Commission, attributing this achievement to the current government and VLEN’s role in governing.

In the area of justice, VLEN highlighted the report’s inclusion of the draft law on fair and adequate representation, whose drafting was led by Justice Minister Jeton Shasivari. According to the statement, the document also recognizes progress in judicial reform, including new laws on the Judicial Council and the Council of Public Prosecutors. VLEN emphasized that the law on the Judicial Council largely addresses the Venice Commission’s recommendations.

The commitment to gradual integration into the EU’s single market is another element reflected in the report, according to VLEN. It sees this process as an opportunity for citizens and businesses to benefit from closer ties with the European Union before full membership. The document also records economic growth of 3.5 percent, with investment, the faster pace of road infrastructure work and information technology services among the factors driving it.

For VLEN, Corridor 8 and the development of rail links with Kosovo strengthen connections with Albania, Kosovo and European networks, while creating opportunities for trade, travel and cooperation. The statement also emphasized that the European Commission recognizes North Macedonia’s full alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy and considers the country a reliable partner.

VLEN said that BDI’s departure from power is being accompanied by a gradual reduction in the reach of the “Serbian World” in North Macedonia. According to VLEN, breaking away from this influence, alongside strengthening relations with Kosovo, Albania and European partners, forms part of the political direction it works toward every day.
