Prime Minister Rama on EU integration: I am so committed to ensuring Albanians can live in their own country as they do in Europe

This Thursday, Prime Minister Edi Rama and the European Union’s ambassador to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, held a press conference after the Progress Report on Albania was handed over.

In his remarks, Rama also emphasized the importance of European integration and the impact this process should have on the lives of Albanian citizens.

“Albanians have faced a stark contrast between the opportunities available at home and abroad. For many families, emigration has been the path to better education, employment, healthcare, or simply a better relationship with the state.

We cannot speak seriously enough about our union with the EU without taking this reality into account. At its heart, this whole process is not about Brussels; it is about building Albania as a state where Albanians have the economic opportunities to raise their children here, as they do in Europe.

When people hear about progress in the EU negotiations, they should bear in mind that this means improving their standard of living here in Albania. That is the main reason I am so committed to this process, and the main reason I am so pleased with this progress report, which is a highly objective assessment of Albania’s great progress,” Rama said.
