Transport Ministry blames DUI and SDSM for state of railways, calls for prosecutors to act on audit reports

The public enterprises Macedonian Railways Transport and Macedonian Railways Infrastructure have received two audit reports examining the period when they were run by officials from DUI and SDSM.

According to the Transport Ministry, the audits were conducted at the request of the current management. The reports identified key problems, and measures have already been taken to address them.

The ministry says the irregularities identified and the problems that it says previous managers ignored have brought the two public enterprises to the brink of failure and total collapse.

It calls on public prosecutors’ offices and the relevant institutions to verify the findings of the State Audit Office. The ministry stresses that the office must forward the reports to the relevant institutions as part of its official duties and that the full reports will be sent to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is being urged to act on them.

The reports on Macedonian Railways Transport and Macedonian Railways Infrastructure cover their operations through 2024. They include audits of the financial statements and compliance audits of the public enterprises, the ministry said.
