Haxhiu places photos of damaged uniforms on ministers’ seats: Police officers have waited five years for new gear

MP Teuta Haxhiu placed photos of damaged Kosovo Police uniforms on ministers’ seats in the Assembly in a symbolic move to draw attention to their condition.

Haxhiu raised concerns about the conditions police officers face and said they have been waiting for new uniforms since 2021. She said many officers had told her they wear their uniforms for 12 hours and that, when they take them off in the evening, their bodies are in poor condition. She described the sight as distressing, mentioned complaints from young officers and asked what would happen if the minister wore such a uniform for even one day.

After the gesture, the MP put a question to Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla. He did not attend today’s session because he is on an official visit to Montenegro.

Police officers’ uniforms have not been replaced for five years because tenders have failed.
